Feb 11: From Penang to Johor Bahru

 We left the Royale Chulan Hotel, Penang, on the morning of February 11th and flew from Penang to Johor Bahru, also in Malaysia — but found crossing the border into nearby Singapore somewhat traumatising. After the very long queue at  Passport control leaving Johor Bahru we had to do it all again at the passport control in Singapore, a process which took many hours, and fractured our nerves. Finally in Singapore, tired and fraught, we were taken under the wing of two lovely young locals who had spotted our distress. They guided us around the underground and took us for a coffee, insisting on paying the bill before seeing us on our way.
